What Is a Fast-Refresh Energy Meter?

A fast-refresh energy meter measures electrical energy and power variables while providing updated data through its communication interface with a short response time. In the YTL DEM series, selected RS485 variants provide a documented communication response time of ≤75 ms.

YTL fast-refresh energy meters include single-phase and three-phase direct-connected models and three-phase CT-operated models. Selected variants support Modbus RTU and DL/T 645-2007 for integration with inverters, EV charging equipment, energy management systems, BMS and industrial controllers.

The ≤75 ms value refers to the meter’s RS485 communication response time. It does not represent waveform sampling frequency, LCD refresh time, cloud upload interval or complete control-loop latency.

What is a fast-refresh energy meter?

A fast-refresh energy meter provides energy and electrical measurement data through a communication interface with a relatively short response time.

What does the ≤75 ms specification mean?

It refers to the documented RS485 communication response time of selected YTL 302 and 202 variants.

Does ≤75 ms mean the meter has a 75 ms sampling interval?

No. Communication response time and internal measurement sampling rate are different technical parameters.

Which YTL models support fast RS485 communication?

Selected DEM1E, DEM2A, DEM3A and DEM3K variants with the 302 or 202 suffix support RS485 communication. Configuration must be confirmed by model.

Which protocols are supported?

Selected RS485 variants support Modbus RTU and DL/T 645-2007.

Are all DEM series MID certified?

The DEM1E, DEM2A, DEM3A and DEM3K series have MID certificate records. The applicable model and configuration should be checked against the certificate annex.

Can these meters connect to an inverter, EV charger, BMS or EMS?

Selected models can provide data through RS485/Modbus RTU. Final integration depends on register mapping, communication settings, gateway and controller compatibility.

How should I choose between DEM1E, DEM2A, DEM3A and DEM3K?

Selection depends on phase, voltage, maximum current, direct or CT connection, accuracy, communication, tariff functions and installation width.
